Iyanla Vanzant


Iyanla Vanzant Iyanla (pronounced E¯-Yan-La) Vanzant is an ordained minister, lawyer, and spiritual life counselor who is a frequent guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show. She is also the award-winning author of five New York Times best-sellers, including Acts of Faith, One Day My Soul Just Opened Up, and In the Meantime, and her debut spoken word album hit the Billboard Gospel Chart at number one.

Vanzant travels globally and has appeared on the NBC daytime drama, Starting Over (2004-2006), passionately delivering her special brand of self-empowerment and inspiration to others. She is founder and director of Inner Visions Institute of Spiritual Development, a multi-faceted training program that offers certification in mastery of life skills, life coaching, and ministerial ordination. Praised by Los Angeles mayor Tom Bradley as “an inspiration to all women,” her stories of personal struggle and victory as a battered wife and teenage welfare mother have touched millions. In building a life of transformation on the foundation of her troubled past, she has become a standard bearer for the power of forgiveness and love to heal. She has been awarded an Oni by the International Congress of Black Women as one of the nation’s unsung heroes.

Vanzant has received numerous awards and accolades for the power and impact of her work. She is hailed as one of Halle Berry’s five “Sheros” (Glamour magazine 2006); one of the country’s most influential African Americans (Ebony magazine 2004 and 1999); among the country’s most 100 Influential Women (Woman’s Day magazine 2003); and one of the “most dynamic speakers in the United States” (Emerge magazine 2000). She has been awarded an honorary doctorate of humane letters from the City University of New York and an honorary doctor of divinity degree from the Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia.
